Visa credit card system crashed Monday afternoon, leaving Canadians to reach for their billfolds.
Royal Bank of Canada and TD Canada Trust say their customers are among those affected by a nationwide Visa outage.
“The system is down for Visa credit card transactions,” said a recorded voice at CIBC customer service. “The issue is being investigated and we hope to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
TD Canada Trust tweeted “Visa is experiencing issues nationwide, not just TD. They are working hard on a resolution, stay tuned for updates.”
Calls to Visa Canada were not immediately returned, but several credit card users across the country took to the social media website to complain that their cards were being declined when they tried to use them.
Not everyone was inconvenienced. “Checking in at airport in Toronto and the Visa network is apparently down, so got to check my bag for free,” Tara Perkins tweeted on Monday afternoon.
